City Council

Finance will meet on Monday to:

  • Appoint Marcia Tabenken and Rabbi Allison Berry for lifetime appointments to the John C. Chaffin Educational Fund
  • Consider requests to:
    • Appropriate and expend $500,000 from a Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources Green Communities Grant for the replacement of the Newton Free Library’s heating, ventilation and air conditioning system
    • Transfer $100,000 from Newton Free Library Full Time Salaries to replace aging computers and technology at the Library
    • Appropriate and expend $1,000,000 from Certified Free Cash to replace one 2008 and two 2007 6-wheel dump trucks with two 6-wheel dump trucks and one 10-wheel swap loader truck for the Streets Division operations
    • Appropriate and expend $315,0000 from the Water Fund Surplus account and $300,000 from the Sewer Fund Surplus account to purchase a hydro vacuum excavator trailer to enhance digging safety
    • Appropriate and expend $500,000 from the Water Fund Surplus account to Water Hydrant Inspections, Engineering Services to fund a water hydrant flushing program 
    • Accept and expend the State’s Revolving Fund Grant of $150,000 to update the Stormwater Asset Management Plan and $75,000 from the Stormwater Management Operating Reserve to provide the City share of matching funds
  • Discuss Departmental Budgets for Comptroller/Retirement, Treasurer, Purchasing, and HR. See Budget Materials.

School Committee

School Committee will meet in Executive Session on Tuesday to discuss litigation/arbitration and strategy with respect to the Newton Teachers Association Units A and C. The School Committee will not reconvene in Open Session.
