City Council

Land Use will meet on Tuesday to consider:

  • Reconstruction of walls that exceed four feet in height at 21 Oakland Street
  • Introduction of a day care center at 66 Needham Street

School Committee

The School Committee will hold a hybrid public hearing regarding School Choice prior to a Regular Meeting on Wednesday.

Boards and Commissions

Newton Other Post-Employment Benefits Trust Fund Board of Trustees will meet on Monday to discuss the most recent Actuarial Valuation and Review of OPEB.

Newton Retirement Board will meet on Tuesday with an agenda including:

  • Board’s Actuary, Kathleen Riley of Segal, to review preliminary 1/1/24 actuarial valuation results
  • Elected Officials – purchase of prior non-membership service –on hold pending PERAC opinion
  • Updating the Newton Retirement Board’s Investment Policy – on hold pending receipt of a draft
  • Update re: pre-employment physicals/monthly meeting with Human Resources Department

Library Trustees – Finance Committee will meet on Tuesday to consider Q3 financial statements, investment performance, FY25 financial planning, and various updates.

Newtonville Local Historic District Commission will meet on Tuesday to:

  • Request feedback for project at 75 Prescott Street
  • Discuss new construction and infill in the district

Newton Free Library Board of Trustees will meet on Wednesday with an agenda including:

  • Mayor’s Community Breakfast May 22, 2024
  • Intellectual Freedom; Building Updates
  • Review of Q3 investment performance, financial results v. budget
  • Spring Fling
  • Strategic Planning Steering Committee: Update on engagement sessions

Design Review Committee – Countryside School Building Committee will meet on Wednesday for updates on building design.

Newton Citizen Commission on Energy will meet on Wednesday to consider:

  • Gas leaks update
  • BERDO update and strategy discussion
  • Discussion of support for developments that meet high energy standards (e.g., 528 Boylston Street)

Zoning Board of Appeals will meet on Wednesday to continue its public hearing on the request for a Comprehensive Permit (Chapter 40B) to construct a 307-unit residential development at 78-84 Crafts Street, 68-70 Crafts Street, 9 Maguire Court, 17-19 Maguire Court, 67R Court Street, 63 Court Street, 13-15 Maguire Court, 24 Maguire Court, 31 Maguire Court, and 31R Maguire Court.

Newton Historic District Commission will meet on Thursday:

Sustainable Materials Management Commission (SMMD) will meet on Thursday to consider: The state of composting in MA and solutions with Kirsti Pecci of Just Zero; Update on the waste-hauling RFP; and SMMD update.

Other

MassDOT will hold a Virtual Public Meeting on Thursday, April 25 at 6PM to review anticipated traffic impacts for Stage 1A of construction the Newton-Weston bridge Replacement & Rehabilitation at I-90/I-95. The project is to be completed in 2027, through five stages of construction.
