Recent honors, appointments, and arrivals for people who live or work in Newton…

  • Liz Abramowitz, Founder and Director of the Bonwood Piano Studio and a distinguished piano educator based in Newton, has been honored with the prestigious Steinway & Sons Top Teacher Award for 2023. The award recognizes a music educator’s passion, artistry, outstanding instruction and leadership in music education, and unceasing commitment to students. Liz was nominated for the award by M. Steinert & Sons of Newton, the world’s oldest independent Steinway & Sons piano dealer.
  • Alex Yen, Ph.D., has received the 2024 Shawn Thornton Service Award from the Massachusetts chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association. Named for NHL player Shawn Thornton, the award recognizes outstanding service, dedication, care and/or volunteerism in support of those living with Parkinson disease. Alex has been an active volunteer for the Chapter since 2007 and a member of the board and Chapter Treasurer since 2010. He is an Associate Professor of Accounting and Chair of the Department of Accounting & Taxation at Stonehill College. He will be honored on May 19 at the opening ceremony of the 2024 APDA MA Optimism Walk, which aims to help those with PD and their caregivers live life to the fullest.
  • Dr. Anna Berik, owner of Bubble Children’s Dentistry and Orthodontics and Newton Dental Associates, has been named to Inc. Magazine’s 7th annual Female Founders List, which honors 250 women founders across all industries for their innovations and entrepreneurial success. Dr. Berik is being recognized for her success in creating a welcoming environment in pediatric and orthodontic dental services for children on the autism spectrum.
