In the wake of the tragic death of Nancy Hanson of Newton due to domestic violence homicide, the City of Newton, The Second Step, and REACH Beyond Domestic Violence will jointly host an online Community Forum on Domestic Violence on Monday, July 31, 6PM-7PM (Zoom link). The event is free, and guests are welcome to join anonymously.
The hosts will maintain a safe space for the community to discuss:
- Types of abuse and warning signs
- Addressing misinformation
- Supporting someone you believe is in an unsafe relationship
- Available resources from REACH Beyond Domestic Violence & The Second Step
The City’s Director of Social Services, Meghan Kennedy, LICSW, will introduce two subject matter experts from local domestic violence agencies and lead a question-and-answer period afterwards.
Speakers will be:
- Gabriela Wells, LCSW (She/Her), Director of Prevention, Intervention & Education at The Second Step
- Sydney Carter (She/Her), Community Engagement Coordinator at REACH Beyond Domestic Violence
