Fig City iOS app: Your guide to 139 places to eat in Newton

Which Newton village has the most Japanese restaurants?

A month after its launch, the Fig City News app now offers a database of 139 places to eat in Newton. You can filter the list by village, by type of cuisine, and by your tagged favorites. And you can search by name or click “spin” to get a suggestion at random from your filtered list. Or browse them all. And then have ready access to the restaurant’s phone, address, directions, website, and ordering links.

Calendars for Local Government Meetings and Community Events

The Fig City News app also offers quick access to two Fig City calendars (also on FigCityNews.com):

  • Local government meetings
  • Community events

Each calendar shows what’s coming up in Newton today, tomorrow, or this week. The calendar listings have links for Zoom meetings, agendas, and more event details found on the Fig City News website.

So this Thursday, around 7PM, you could check the app’s Local Government calendar, see the Public Safety and Transportation Committee meeting, and click to join in by Zoom. Or you could check the app’s Community calendar and see that you have just enough time to get over to Newton South HS to catch the opening night of SouthStage’s production of 9 to 5, the Musical.

The app is free and presently available only on iOS. You can share the app with your friends via the upward “share” button or QR code on the About page.

Send suggestions for new features to info@figcitynews.com. In particular, let us know if we’ve missed your favorite restaurant, and we will get it added. Please leave a review to let everyone know how the Fig City News app is working for you.

So which village has the most Japanese restaurants? The number is three, but you’ll need to download the app to find out which village is home to them.
