Newton residents in the news

Dr. Erica Muhl will become the fourth president — and the first female president — of Berklee College of Music. Several events on April 3-4, free and open to the public upon registration, will celebrate her inauguration.

Eric M. Turner, Provost and Professor of Business at Lasell University, has been named the final candidate in the search for the University’s next president. He has served as Chair of the University’s Board of Trustees and Trustee of Lasell Village. His career spans the public and private sectors at State Street, IBM, the Massachusetts State Lottery, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Declan Daley of Newton South High School was selected by MVC/DCL Division 2 to receive the 2023 Boston Bruins-MIAA Sportsmanship Award, which is presented annually by the Boston Bruins and the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) to one individual from each Massachusetts high school ice hockey league who best exemplifies the highest standards of fair play and sportsmanship. Daley received the award at the TD Garden during an intermission of the Boston Bruins game against the Ottawa Senators on March 21.

The following students from Newton received Dean’s List Honors for the Fall 2022 semester at Dickinson College:

  • Jonah Henderson (Psychology, child of Andy Henderson and Judy Clair Henderson)
  • Emily Ochlis (Environmental Science and Mathematics, daughter of Adam Ochlis and Eve Tapper)

Alison Lies has been named Executive Vice President of Winstanley Enterprises, a leading New England commercial real estate development and investment firm. She will oversee financing, joint ventures, acquisition, development, and portfolio financial analyses, working closely with Winstanley’s in-house asset management, construction management, and property management teams.
