The Ward 2 Ward councilor race just added a third candidate. Peter Bruce, former President of the Newtonville Area Council, has taken out nomination papers to run for the seat soon to be vacated by the current Ward 2 Councilor, Emily Norton. He joins David Micley and Daniel Gaynor, who have already declared their candidacies. If all three qualify by gathering fifty certified signatures from registered Ward 2 voters, there will be a preliminary election on September 12.
Ward 4 Ward Council candidate Bruce McVittie has withdrawn nomination papers. Doris Ann Sweet is the only candidate currently running to succeed Councilor Christopher Markiewicz, who announced that he is not planning to run for reelection.
Newton candidates must file nomination papers by July 25.
