Tea & Treat the day after the election, Nov. 5

Come to a fun, non-partisan event the day after the election on November 5, at 6PM. Step into a new kind of community gathering! As part of the Greening Your Houses of Worship series, this event is all about discovering joyful, sustainable ways to connect.

What’s brewing?

  • Learn how induction stoves can transform the way we cook.
  • Explore the art of Chinese tea—taste five out of six traditional varieties!
  • Drink all five Chinese teas that were thrown into Boston Harbor on Dec 16, 1773.
  • Find out about the ecological impacts of the hot beverages we all love.
  • Join a lively conversation on why it might be time to swap out “coffee hour” for “tea time.”

Special Guests: Alexander Lee and Iris Tang will share their knowledge of the Boston Tea Party, Chinese tea traditions, and induction stoves to spark a fun, interactive evening of camaraderie among Newton’s faith communities and all people of good will.

Alexander, a Chestnut Hill native, is the co-founder of the SHOL Newton Creation Care Team and an active green parent in the Newton Public Schools. Iris invented and helped run a Michelin-star restaurant and teahouse in Guangzhou, China.

Come in a mask, your Hallowe’en costume, or just as you are. Everyone’s welcome. (Yes, grown-ups can dress up, too!)

Bring a vegan or vegetarian dish to share by 6 PM and add your flavor to the feast.

This is your chance to sip, taste, laugh, and learn 00 while reimagining traditions in a way that’s kinder to the planet.

Co-Sponsored by Eliot Church Creation Care Team, Green Newton, SHOL Newton Creation Care Team, FUUSN Climate Action Task Force, Boston Catholic Climate Movement, Green Newton, and Massachusetts Interfaith Power & Light.
