The proposal for Dudley Road appears to have fallen through. The property is back on the market (see Listing). The City of Newton was given an opportunity to make an offer on the 14+ acre property adjacent to Newton South between Dudley and Brandeis Road and was in discussion with NOW Communities and Civico Development to explore their concept of developing the parcel with clustered home ownership housing (75 to 125) units (20% affordable – 10% at 80% AMI and 10% at 110% AMI) with a mix of 1 and 3-to-6-unit buildings.
The City’s Review Team chose the NOW Communities/Civico Development proposal after looking at 9 potential responses to the Request for City’s Expression of Interests (see review)
Ward 8 at-large City Councilor and Review Team member Rick Lipof said, “Unfortunately a sale did not come to fruition for the City’s preferred buyer due to many of the same economic and market pressures affecting many developments in the city. The property is now listed on the open market and we await whatever proposed development is presented to the city in the future.”
