School Committee Meetings – Week of 7/23/2023

The School Committee will hold a retreat in person (Room 111, Ed Center) on Tuesday, July 25 at 1PM. The agenda includes the following:

  • Discussion of district goals and strategic planning for the future
  • Overview of the Superintendent Evaluation Process
  • Identification of Superintendent Goals for the 23-24 SY and identification of areas of the superintendent evaluation rubric that you would like to prioritize this year. Superintendent Evaluation Process Overview
  • District strategic plan ideas and discussion
  • Overview of profile of a graduate process (this is the overview as it leads to strategic planning).
    • What do workforce leaders say they want in graduates? See EdWeek article (NOTE: May need to subscribe).
      • Video (1) – A 15-minute video was released by Reynoldsburg City Schools. This video illustrates how their Portrait has become their aspirational vision for all the work their teachers and students embrace in their classrooms. This school system is K-12 and there are examples of how this work is surfacing in various grade bands.
      • Video (2) – This was from Chandler (AZ) and it provides input from various members of the Design team who participated in the Portrait of a Graduate journey. It illustrates the power of the community coming together.
      • Video (3) – What does our Student model look like in action – See Pike County (GA) share their approach.

The School Committee will meet in person (Room 210, Ed Center) and virtually (Zoom link) on Tuesday, July 25 at 4PM. The agenda includes the following:

The Negotiations Subcommittee of the Newton School Committee will meet in person (Room 304, Ed Center) on Wednesday, July 26 at 3PM and will enter into Executive Session for the following (see Meeting Notice):

  • To discuss strategy with respect to collective bargaining with the Newton Public Schools Custodian Association (NPSCA)
  • To conduct a collective bargaining session with the NPSCA
