The Newton Art Association (NAA) will hold an awards ceremony virtually on May 8 at 7PM (Zoom link) to honor three recipients of named scholarships ($800 each) and four recipients of Honorable Mention awards ($150 each). The recipients are:
Named Scholarships
- Family Foundation Award: Joy Kim (Phillips Academy; Carnegie Mellon University — Fine Arts)
- Myra Abelson Award: Emily Cheng (Newton South HS; Cornell University — Psychology, Statistics, Art History)
- NAA Scholar Award: Kelsey McPhail (Newton North HS; McGill University — Psychology)
Honorable Mention Awards
- Natalie Martin (Newton North HS; Rochester Institute of Technology — Medical Illustration)
- Isabel Dantas (Newton South HS; Emerson College — Art History, Business in creative enterprises)
- Julie Wang (Newton South HS; Brown University — Computer Science, Studio Art, Graphic Design)
- Nora Mohamed (Newton North HS; Art, Psychology)
For over 35 years, the NAA has awarded scholarships to senior art students who reside in Newton or attend high school in Newton. This year, fourteen students from five high schools applied for the scholarships.
