Artists in grades 6-12: Apply to make a mural for SHINE

All Newton students in grades 6-12 are invited to apply by March 28 to participate in SHINE, a temporary art installation to be displayed in Newton parks and playgrounds, May-October. SHINE will show six student-designed 4’x8’ horizontal murals painted onto plywood and grouped in small clusters throughout the city. The project will also include a live painting event during Family FunFEST on Saturday, May 13. Students (or teams of students working together) should submit proposals and accompanying materials by 5PM on March 28. Artists who are selected will receive a $250 stipend per mural to cover the cost of supplies and an artist honorarium, and their art will be promoted by Newton Parks, Recreation & Culture. Painting of the plywood murals will be done at the West Newton Armory at times to be scheduled, finishing up at the Family FunFEST at City Hall, 10AM-4PM on May 13. For more information, visit the SHINE site or email culture@newtonma.gov. SHINE is sponsored by Bubble Children’s Dentistry and Orthodontics.
