Climate change action involves both mitigation (prevention by reducing and eventually eliminating the burning of fossil fuels) and adaptation (or resilience; adapting to climate change to protect people, property, and the environment from impacts already here and coming). Even if we stop burning fossil fuels tomorrow, many impacts are already here, including hotter summers, more frequent drought, increased flooding, and more. All these impacts are detailed in the City of Newton’s April 2018 Climate Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation and Resiliency Action Plan.
