Morrison: Eliminate the overnight parking ban

I am voting to eliminate the winter restrictions on overnight parking in Newton. I have lived in Newtonville for more than 30 years. I have worked here for 24 years. The Mayor has the power to declare a snow emergency and prohibit on-street parking. With large snowfalls fairly uncommon due to global warming, there is simply no need for this regulation. In our neighborhood, there are times when family members returning to visit their parents, overnight visitors or even home health care workers need to park on the street during the hours of 2AM – 6PM.  During the worst of COVID-19 when the overnight parking ban was lifted, I did not find any inconvenience with my neighbors having visitors parking in the neighborhood for sometimes months at a time. There is no need to subject them to a $25 parking ticket when there is no weather emergency. Please vote to end this ban.
