Rooney: Jenna Miara, Mali Brodt, and Jim Murphy for School Committee

I’m a special educator at Newton North, and I work closely with many members of our Unit C staff. The work these professionals do is foundational to our schools – they are truly the backbone of the system.

For our schools to thrive, we need leaders who understand how the pieces fit together — from classrooms to student services to district operations. The systems that support students, especially those receiving special education services, are complex and interconnected. When decision-makers truly understand that complexity, they can make choices that strengthen the entire district.

That’s why I’m supporting Jenna Miara (Ward 5), Mali Brodt (Ward 6), and Jim Murphy (Ward 8) for School Committee. I’ve spoken personally with Jim and Jenna and have followed the Ward 6 race closely. These three candidates bring a wealth of experience and a genuine understanding of how schools work. Mali has nearly twenty years in education, and Jim nearly forty. Jenna has shown skill and fairness in collaborating with unions and administrators alike — she understands how to build partnerships that move schools forward.

In recent years, we’ve seen how important it is to have committee members who combine sound fiscal judgment with a deep understanding of teaching and learning. Jenna, Mali, and Jim have that balance. They know how to connect policy to practice and will keep the focus where it belongs — on supporting students and the educators who serve them every day.

I hope you’ll join me in voting for Jenna, Mali, and Jim on or before November 4!
