Marken: Support Jonathan Greene for School Committee, Ward 6

This is a pivotal year for the Newton Public Schools, with a new Mayor on the horizon and six of eight School Committee seats turning over. As a Newton parent and voter, I’ve followed these races closely, and one candidate stands out for his vision, integrity, and readiness to lead — Jonathan Greene, running in Ward 6.

Jonathan is a proud Newton native and graduate of our public schools. He often speaks with genuine pride about his own NPS experience, and it’s clear from his campaign that he’s been listening closely to families, educators, and neighbors across the city. What sets him apart is his combination of deep local roots and real leadership experience.

Newton’s schools are a large and complex organization — $300 million in annual spending, nearly 2,000 staff members, and more than 11,000 students. Managing this system requires leaders who understand fiscal responsibility and the weight of public trust. Jonathan brings that understanding and a balanced, pragmatic approach to decision-making.

In the years ahead, Newton will face significant budget challenges. Jonathan recognizes that meeting them will take more than simply calling on the Mayor to “fully fund the schools.” It will require collaboration — between the School Committee, the Mayor’s office, and the teachers’ union — and a clear set of priorities that reflect what Newton families value most. His vision for excellence centers on student achievement, accountability, and opportunity for every learner.

Jonathan Greene offers the thoughtful, practical leadership our schools need. I urge my fellow Newton residents to support him for the School Committee on Election Day.
