Public Facilities Committee – 10/8/2025

The Public Facilities Committee held the following (see the report and watch the meeting video):

  • Discussion and possible ordinance to manage groundwater effects on Newton residents’ homes (7-0-1, Councilor Gentile not voting) to manage the storage, measurement, and effects of groundwater to address new builds and groundwater impact on adjacent properties, including a review of other cities’ and towns’ groundwater regulations and penalties for mismanagement.

The Public Facilities Committee voted no action necessary:

  • Discussion on water conservation planning regarding Citywide stormwater, flooding, and hydrology (7-0-1, Councilor Gentile not voting) A technical briefing covered rainfall intensity, topography, infrastructure capacity, and maintenance practices, with focus areas prone to surcharging.
