The fourth annual Newton Bakery Crawl, organized by All Over Newton, will highlight 21 locations with tempting deals and treats on Friday and Saturday, September 26-27.
Most of the participating bakeries are open on both Friday and Saturday — with different hours for each shop — but a few are open only on one day, Friday or Saturday.
Here’s Fig City‘s guide to finding your way — when and how to visit bakeries on the Crawl.
Nine participating bakeries are north of the Mass. Pike, and twelve are south of Commonwealth Ave., and they fit into two rambling routes for walking, biking, or driving. The North route, about a five-mile walk, has two shops that are open only on Saturday (and it also has one shop that is open only on Friday). The South route is about six miles and has one shop open only on Friday. But there are plenty of destinations on either route on either day.

The windows when all shops are open are Friday 11AM-2PM and Saturday 11AM-1PM. By following Fig City‘s suggested routes, participants can travel more leisurely yet visit every shop when it’s open (excluding shops closed for the day). On these routes, the windows are:
- North route: Friday or Saturday, start at 9AM and finish by 2PM
- South route: Friday start at 9AM and finish by 4PM; Saturday start at 9AM and finish by 7PM
As shown by the diagonal lines in the chart below, that’s traveling about one mile per hour, including stopping time.
