Public Facilities Committee – 9/3/2025

The Public Facilities Committee approved the following (see the report and watch the meeting video):

  • Grant of location at Washington St at Kempton Place gas main installation (8-0, subject to second call). National Grid petition to install roughly 46′ of 6″ plastic main line to serve Kempton Place. The petitioner agreed to go all-electric for cooking and will cap a temporary gas line used only for the winter construction season.
  • Grant of location at 1185 Washington Street onto Dunstan Street (8-0) Eversource petition to install 30 feet of conduit. No one spoke at the public hearing.
  • Grant of location at Centre St at Cotton St (8-0) for Eversource to install and maintain an ‘anchor guy.’ No one spoke at the public hearing.

The Public Facilities Committee voted no action necessary:

  • A discussion on standard road work procedures (8–0) The Department of Public Works (DPW) described existing planning/notification practices, as well as recent policy changes (e.g., requiring contractors to obtain noise waivers for line striping). The DPW agreed that communication on the Adams Street striping was not great.
  • Request for a grant of location for a gas main in Colgate Rd and Hagar St (8-0). The request was withdrawn.

The Public Facilities Committee held:

  • Request for a main drain extension at 132 Homer St (8-0). Given the conflicting engineering reports, the committee authorized hiring an independent peer reviewer at the applicant’s expense. Petitioner would pay the entire cost of the drain extension.
