Green Newton: Environmental Leadership Celebration, Oct. 4

Green Newton will host the Environmental Leadership Celebration at the American Legion Nonantum Post 440 (295 California Street, Nonantum) on Saturday, October 4 from 6:30–9:00PM. The event will celebrate Newton’s vibrant environmental community while honoring three outstanding leaders with the 2025 Louise Bruyn Environmental Leadership Awards.

This year’s honorees are:

  • Andreae Downs, who will be retiring from her role as Newton City Councilor in 2025,
  • Ruthanne Fuller, who will be completing her term as Mayor of Newton this year, and
  • Peter Smith, co-founder and board member of Green Newton.

Their contributions reflect decades of dedication to protecting the environment and advancing sustainability within the community.

The evening will begin with a cocktail reception featuring an open bar and signature beverages, followed by a sustainable dinner that highlights environmentally responsible practices. Guests will have the opportunity to hear personal reflections and insights from each of the award recipients during the program, which will conclude with the formal presentation of the Louise Bruyn Environmental Leadership Awards by local civic and community leaders.

The Environmental Leadership Celebration not only honors these remarkable individuals but also supports Green Newton’s urgent work to protect the environment and fight climate change from the local level.
