Newton for Everyone: Priced out – The growing challenge of teacher retention and housing costs, Sept. 30

Newton for Everyone will host a talk, Priced out: The growing challenge of teacher retention and housing costs, on September 30 at 7PM in-person at the Scandinavian Living Center’s Nordic Hall (206 Waltham Street, West Newton) and via Zoom. Register to attend in-person or by Zoom.

Heather Peske, president of the National Council on Teacher Quality, will share their recently released analysis of housing costs and teacher pay across the country, with implications for Newton’s teachers, schools, and community.

Newton for Everyone notes: Dramatic changes in the housing market have left many educators in an unwinnable race for a basic need: an affordable place to live. Many teachers have a long commute because there isn’t enough housing in Newton or nearby. How does the lack of housing impact the retention and recruitment of good teachers?
