Eleven-year-old pianist Rui Gong of Newton will present Romance from the North, his first solo recital of Scandinavian repetoire, at the Scandinavian Cultural Center (206 Waltham Street, West Newton) on Sunday, September 7 at 3PM. Admission is by voluntary contribution ($20 suggested).

Rui Gong will perform pieces representing the five Scandinavian countries, by their most revered composers: Denmark’s Carl Nielsen, Finland’s Jean Sibelius, Iceland’s Jón Leifs, Norway’s Edvard Grieg and Sweden’s Wilhelm Peterson-Berger. Dr. Bempéchat will be introducing their historical backgrounds and impact on the history of music.
