I want to say thank you to everyone who came to the peaceful “No Kings” demonstration last Saturday in Newton Centre against authoritarianism in America. It was wonderful to be part of a large, intergenerational group of neighbors, to purchase items from the bake sale set up by some entrepreneurial middle-schoolers, and to have many conversations and even some laughs about the historical moment in which we find ourselves. It reassured me that we are a community full of common sense, and gave me hope that together we will succeed in preserving the freedoms enshrined in our Bill of Rights.
I hope to see many of you at future noontime Saturday “standouts” on that same corner over the summer.
