Newton Cultural Development’s annual Halloween Window Painting event — October 29 (rain date: October 30), 9AM-4PM — offers opportunity for all Newton students in Grades 3-8 (under adult supervision) to decorate participating merchants’ windows with Halloween-themed artwork. The six villages in this year’s event are Auburndale, Newton Centre, Newton Highlands, Newtonville, Nonantum, and West Newton.
Each young artist is invited to share their own interpretation of this haunted holiday by designing and creating their own masterpiece for public appreciation. Subject matter in the past has ranged from jack o’ lanterns, goblins, witches, and owls, to specific store-related themes such as ice-cream wielding ghosts. Read the rules and guidelines and then register here.
This year’s Halloween Window Painting is sponsored by GEICO Insurance, Newton Community Pride, and Learning Express in Newton Centre, where they’re offering an in-store discount on supplies and a chance to win a basketful of goodies when you shop in store. It is made possible in part by the support of a crew of volunteers, and by the participating merchants who make their windows available to our young artists. Volunteer help is still needed; if you can offer your time, email lrucinski@newtonma.gov or sign up here. High schoolers/past painters are especially welcome!
