Traffic Council Report – January 30, 2025

The Traffic Council approved the following (see the report and watch the meeting video):

  • Stop Sign at Sheridan and Derby Streets (5-0) Approved the installation of a stop sign at the end of Sheridan Street as it intersects with Derby Street, northbound as a safety clarification for right-of-way at this T intersection.
  • Stop Sign at Prairie and Auburndale Avenues (5-0) Approved the installation of stop signs on Prairie Avenue at its T intersection with Auburndale Avenue in both directions.
  • Stop Sign on Owatonna Street at Chaske Avenue and Bencliffe Circle (5-0) to clarify right-of-way at the intersection of Owatonna Street and Chaske Avenue, northbound, and Bencliffe Circle at Chaske Avenue, southbound. This measure addresses safety at a four-legged intersection following a community request.
  • Extension of Walnut Street Safety Zone (5-0) Extends the existing 20 MPH safety zone on Walnut Street to begin south of a bus stop on Mill Street, enhancing driver speed control through a crucial roadway curve near local schools to increase safety for pedestrians.
  • Parking Restrictions on Suffolk Road (5-0) Approved the addition of 80 feet of parking restriction on the south side of Suffolk Road, east of the roadway curve near Kingsbury Road, to aid the safe maneuvering of emergency vehicles to enhance safety and visibility along the curve.
  • No Turn on Red at Multiple Intersections on Ward Street (5-0) Approved the implementation of no turn on red restrictions at all approaches of the intersection involving Ward Street, Waverley Avenue, and Stuart Road to enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety at a complex intersection with poor sightlines and high pedestrian usage.
  • Parking Area Updates on Chestnut Street (5-0) Update the Traffic and Parking Regulations reflecting the new parking configurations on Chestnut Street, east of Oak Street, following recent area improvements. The new configuration includes two 15-minute spaces, two accessible spaces, two time-limited EV spaces, six 3-hour metered spaces, and 17 10-hour metered spaces on the south side.
  • No Turn on Red at Chestnut and Oak Streets (5-0) Approved the formal inclusion of existing no turn on red restrictions at the intersection of Chestnut Street and Oak Street in the Traffic and Parking Regulations.

All items may be appealed through the close of business on February 19, 2025.
