City Council Meetings – Week of 1/19/2025

City Council will meet in person (Council Chamber) and virtually (Zoom link) on Tuesday, January 21 at 7:45PM. See Reports Docket and New Docket.

Programs and Services will meet virtually (Zoom link) on Wednesday, January 22 at 7PM. The agenda includes the following:

  • Appointment of Sam Figler to the Licensing Board
  • Appointment of Claire Wadlington to the Newton Community Education Commission
  • Request to update the Programs and Services Committee re: City Seal Redesign

Public Safety and Transportation will meet virtually (Zoom link) on Wednesday, January 22 at 7PM. The agenda includes the following:

  • Traffic Council Chair to provide the Annual Report of the work of Traffic Council for 2024
  • Request for a regular discussion with the Police Department of police data, including crashes, types of calls, numbers and dispositions

Public Facilities will meet in person (Room 204) and virtually (Zoom link) on Wednesday, January 22 at 7PM. The agenda includes the following requests:

  • Discussion with the Department of Public Works about what the department has done to prepare residents for unanticipated water bills.
  • Discussion with Utilities Division on issues related to non-working water meter transponders including past and current billing procedures, and potential improvements for remainder of new meter installation period.
  • Discussion with Director of Planning, Commissioner of DPW, or their designees on what metrics will be used for the Washington Street pilot, to provide an opportunity for councilor input.
  • Authorization to enter into negotiations for the potential lease on city properties for purposes of third-party construction, ownership, and operation of on-site renewable solar energy generation from which the City will purchase electric output and/or net metering credits.
