State Representative John Lawn was named Legislator of the Year by the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (MassNAELA), “for going above and beyond in supporting legislation that protects the rights and improves the lives of seniors and individuals with disabilities.”

Waban resident Jason Paul has secured sufficient signatures from members of the Democratic National Committee to be included on the ballot for party chair. Committee members signing his petition represent 25 states, including eight state chairs. Of the eight candidates now in the race, Paul claims to have outlined the most comprehensive set of plans, ranging from fundraising reforms to a plan for 10,000 local organizers across the country. He is the only current candidate from New England.

Mexican classical guitarist Zaira Meneses has been awarded a grant from Passim’s Iguana Music Fund and will use it to promote her career by with promotional videos, tracks, and professional pictures for her website. Since 2008 the Iguana Fund has provided New England musicians funding for hundreds of career-building projects. 

The Wily Network, serving Boston-area students who are navigating college without a safety net, has received an $8,000 grant from Metro Credit Union for its Wily Scholars Finances and Financial Future program.
