City Council
City Council is not scheduled to meet this week.
Zoning and Planning will meet on Monday to discuss BERDO — a possible ordinance to require owners’ annual reporting of energy use and associated greenhouse gas emissions by large properties (campuses and large commercial buildings), in support of the Newton Climate Action Plan. Public comment will be open regarding the inclusion of large residential buildings with central heating systems and a potential exemption for Newton Wellesley Hospital.
Finance will meet on Monday to consider:
- $123,677 grant from the state Executive Office of Public Safety and Security for NPD staff overtime
- $7,500 from Handicapped Parking Fines for NPD overtime pay for Holiday Targeted Enforcement of the accessible parking
- $600 from Handicapped Parking Fines for an ASL interpreter and real-time translation for a screening of The Ride Ahead
- $225,000 for security camera and access control improvements at Fire and Police Department locations
- $775,000 for municipal building maintenance projects
- $700,000 for several high-priority capital projects at Newton North High School
School Committee
School Committee will meet on Monday for a working session on strategic planning and district goals.
Newton Public Schools will host a free Alumni Breakfast on Wednesday, 9AM-11AM, at the Education Center. RSVP here.
Schools will be closed on Thursday and Friday.
Boards and Commissions
Newton Cultural Council will meet on Monday to adjudicate grant applications.
Sustainable Materials Management Commission will meet on Monday for officer elections and a report on waste reduction in schools.
Youth Commission will meet on Monday to possibly elect a Chair and create additional Youth Commission officer positions.
Council on Aging will meet on Tuesday to meet new Program Coordinator/Volunteer Coordinator Batia Bloomenthal and discuss Needs Assessment Results.
Newton Highlands Neighborhood Area Council will meet on Tuesday in a special meeting with Ward 6 City Councilors to discuss the Newton Highlands Village Enhancement Project.
