City Council
Finance will meet on Monday to consider:
- Appointing JP Nahmias and Patrick Moriarty to the Financial Audit Advisory Committee
- Reappointing Antonio Bianchi as a Constable
- Accepting a $53,015 grant from Massachusetts’ Executive Office of Public Safety & Security to fund traffic safety enforcement overtime and safety equipment
- Expending $29,056 for rectangular rapid flashing beacon(RRFB) crosswalk pedestrian signal across Lowell Avenue at Page Road
- Accepting $50,000 grant to develop a Wage and Classification Plan
- Acquiring a 11,210 square foot portion of the Price Center parking lot at 25-27 Christina Street for $430,000 for access to a new shared-use path bridge over the Charles River
- Appropriating $17,500 in Community Preservation Act funds for the Newton Planning Department to conduct Phase II of the Midcentury Architectural Survey
Zoning and Planning will meet on Monday to consider:
- Appointing Jennifer Pucci to Zoning Board of Appeals
- A possible ordinance (BERDO) to require owners of large property (campuses and large commercial buildings) to report energy use and associated greenhouse gas emissions annually to the City of Newton
- Possible amendments to zoning or other ordinances to enhance the preservation of existing homes over their replacement by larger and more expensive homes (Commissioner of Public Buildings will join the discussion.)
- Ordinance amendments to revise the metrics in the multi-residence zones, better regulate the size of new buildings, enable a wider range of housing options close to public transit, and better incentivize preservation and renovation of existing housing stock
- Appropriating $1,841,719 for a grant to the Newton Affordable Housing Trust
School Committee
Negotiations Subcommittee of the School Committee will meet in Executive Session on Monday to discuss a grievance with the Newton Teachers Association.

Newton Retirement Board will meet on Tuesday.
Nominating and Governance Subcommittee of the Library Board of Trustees will meet on Tuesday to discuss the Director Evaluation.
Walker Center Joint Advisory Planning Group will meet on Tuesday for public comment, brainstorming, and financial discussions.
Design Review Committee/Countryside School Building Committee will meet on Wednesday to discuss the School Committee’s vote to approve the 90% submittal to the MSBA, and DRC’s review and vote to approve for bidding.
Conservation Commission will meet on Wednesday to consider:

- Notices of Intent for:

Newton Citizens Commission on Energy will meet on Wednesday for:
- BERDO update and strategy discussion
- Residential sector discussion
Board of License Commissioners will meet on Thursday to consider two requests for One-day Temporary Wine and Malt Licenses at the Windsor Club: a social/fundraising event for Angier and Zervas, and a memorial service.
Election Commission will conduct advanced processing of Early Voted ballots from each precinct on October 28-31 and November 1 if necessary, in the basement cafeteria of City Hall. High-speed tabulator testing will take place on Monday. All of these activities are open to the public.
