Newton people in the news…

Eric M. Turner was inaugurated on October 18 as the tenth president of Lasell University. He has been involved in Lasell’s management for thirty years, serving as provost since 2020. (See Fig City News article on his appointment.)

Laura Colarusso will become editor of the Commonwealth Beacon on November 4 — the result of a nationwide search for the successor to Bruce Mohl, who has held the position for 16 years. She is currently editor of Nieman Reports, a website and quarterly print publication covering thought leadership in journalism. Previously she was digital managing editor at GBH News, where she won a regional 2020 Edward R. Murrow Award. Her reporting has covered climate change, education, health care, and the Pentagon in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Kenneth Brennan will retire in January from his role as Board Chair at The Village Bank, where he served 10 years as Board Chair and 23 years as President and CEO. His leadership began more than 40 years ago, when he served as President and CEO of the Auburndale Cooperative Bank prior to its merger with the Newton South Cooperative Bank to form The Village Bank in 2003. He will remain on the board, and Thomas Keery, who has served on the board since 2016, will become Board Chair.

Abigail Parrila recently was named the new Chief Executive Officer of The Price Center, a Newton-based service agency empowering and caring for individuals with special gifts, needs, and abilities in Greater Boston and MetroWest communities. For over twenty years, she has managed large groups of people across various for-profit and non-profit sectors, most recently as CEO of the Arc of the South Shore. She is a fervent advocate for elder and disability rights, a motivational speaker, and a trained, bilingual mediator.
