Board and Commission Meetings – Week of 8/18/2024

Board of License Commissioners will meet virtually (Zoom link) on Tuesday, August 20 at 7:30PM. The agenda includes the following:

  • Two requests for One-day Temporary Entertainment Licenses:
    • Newton Food Pantry, Fundraiser, Thursday, October 17 6PM -9PM – Windsor Club, 1601 Beacon Street
    • Boston College, Concert, Saturday, September 14 4PM-8PM – Boston College, Carney Hall, 140 Commonwealth Avenue
  • Request for a Temporary Wine and Malt and Entertainment License
    • John M. Barry Boys and Girls Club of Newton, Boxing Exhibition, Saturday, September 28, 5PM – 10PM, 675 Watertown Street
  • Request for a New Common Victualler License
    • The Cookie Monstah d/b/a The Cookie Monstah, 839 Washington Street. Hours of operation will be Mon-Sun – 11AM-10PM.
  • Application for a New Common Victualler and Annual Entertainment License
    • West Newton Cinema Foundation, Inc. d/b/a West Newton Cinema, 1296 Washington Street. Hours of operation will be Mon-Sun – 10AM-11PM.
  • Application for a New Wine and Malt Restaurant, New Common Victualler and Annual Entertainment License
    • Pink Carrot Chestnut Hill LLC d/b/a Pink Carrot, 27 Boylston Street. Hours of operation will be Mon – Sun from 8AM – 8PM.
  • Closed Businesses: The following alcohol license holder gave notice to the administrative staff that the business is closed or will be closing soon:
    • Feast & Fettle, Inc. d/b/a Feast & Fettle – 811 Washington Street, Newtonville. Business contacted administrative license clerk by email on June 25, 2024. Owner informed license clerk that the business had closed its Newton location
    • 1302 Inc d/b/a Comella’s – 1302 Washington Street, West Newton. Business closed permanently. A new license was issued for new location in Newtonville.

Community Preservation Committee will meet virtually (Zoom link) on Tuesday, August 20 at 7PM. The agenda includes the following (see Packet):

  • Newton Affordable Housing Trust FY24 Year-in-Review
  • Public Hearing for Newton Affordable Housing Trust FY25 Proposal

Board of Assessors will meet in person (Room 108) on Wednesday, August 21 at 9AM. The agenda includes the following:

  • Approval of July 2024 Exemption and Abatement Reports

Election Commission will meet in person (Cafeteria, City Hall basement) on Wednesday, August 21 at 9AM for High Speed Tabulator testing for the upcoming September 3 State Primary election.

Conservation Commission will meet virtually (Zoom link) on Thursday, August 22 at 7PM. The agenda includes the following (see Packet):

Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) will hold an in-person (Room 204) hearing on Thursday, August 22 at 7PM regarding an appeal of a Certificate of Appropriateness that was issued by the Newton Upper Falls Historic District Commission on June 13, 2024 for property located at 298-304 Elliot Street.

Newton Commonwealth Foundation’s Request for Proposals (RFP) Subcommittee will meet in person (Room B-17) on Thursday, August 22 at 10AM. The agenda includes the following:

  • Continued review of RFP #22-27 for 2025 golf course management contract
  • Meet with a potential consultant for evaluation of RFP and all golf course operations

Newton Historical Commission will meet virtually (Zoom link) on Thursday, August 22 at 7PM. The agenda includes the following:
