Traffic Council voted (5-0) to approve the following (see Report and watch NewTV video):
- Removal of One Metered Parking Space on Herrick Road (Approved 5-0): Councilor Danberg requested the removal of one metered parking space at 39 Herrick Road to provide emergency vehicle access to a new 9-unit multifamily dwelling. This was necessitated by the construction of a new building driveway onto Herrick Road and was supported by the Newton Fire Department for public safety reasons.
The Traffic Council voted to Hold the following:
- Parking Restrictions on Lowell Avenue (Held 5-0): Isaac Prizant proposed restricting parking on both sides of Lowell Avenue from Page Road southward by 100 feet to enhance crosswalk visibility and accommodate DPW’s installation of flex posts.
- Creation of Auburndale Business Parking on Woodbine Street (Approved 5-0): Proposed by Councilors Gentile and Krintzman to manage parking in response to the needs of the Auburndale Village Parking District, particularly to support a busy veterinary hospital.
- Reversion of Parking Regulations at Lexington Street Public Parking Lot (Approved 5-0): David Koses proposed reverting parking regulations to pre-April 27, 2023, standards due to the discontinuation of NewMo vehicles needing reserved spaces.
- Washington Street Pilot Project Changes (Held 5-0): Proposed adjustments to public parking spaces and traffic circulation to support the Washington Street Pilot project to improve safety and accessibility.
- Adjustment of Speed Limit on Washington Street (Held 5-0): Request to reduce the speed limit from 35 mph to 25 mph to align with changes from the Washington Street Pilot project.
- Temporary Parking Regulation Changes Near Education Center (Held 4-0): To accommodate a solar canopy project, temporary adjustments to parking regulations were proposed to manage the displacement of parking during construction.
- Temporary Parking Regulation Changes Near Middle Schools (Held 4-0): Similar to the situation at the Education Center, adjustments a proposed near Brown and Oak Hill Middle Schools to facilitate solar canopy projects.
