Newton resident and clinical psychologist Dr. Lisa Najavits has initiated a public health project to offer a free, drop-in support group to help people in the community learn coping skills, especially related to helping people who have suffered from trauma and/or addiction. The meetings will take place weekly on Wednesdays, 5:30-6:30PM in the Raya Stern Trustees Room of the Watertown Public Library (123 Main St, Watertown), starting July 31.
The program is based on Lisa’s coping skills model, Seeking Safety, offered by an organization she created, Treatment Innovations. Treatment Innovations says that Seeking Safety is an evidence-based coping skills model that has been implemented for over 35 years all over the U.S. and internationally and has been found to be extremely safe and effective.
