Newton Swing Band: Patriotic Concert, May 28

The Newton Swing Band will present a free concert of patriotic songs on Tuesday, May 28 at 1:30PM in the War Memorial Auditorium at Newton City Hall.

We expect that the audience will sing along with us. Words to these familiar songs will be provided.

The Newton Swing Band started over 35 years ago, when two Newton residents, who happened to be musicians, met accidentally and discovered that they shared a love of mainstream “Great American Songbook” music. They gradually accumulated musician friends, formed a band, developed a repertoire, and were allowed to play every Tuesday afternoon at the Newton Senior Center. During the construction of a new Senior Center, the band (now numbering 20 musicians) rehearses every Tuesday, 1PM-3PM in the War Memorial Auditorium at City Hall. Everyone is welcome to sit in on our weekly practices.

The band presents its annual patriotic songs program around Memorial Day and a holiday concert close to Christmas, and plays at senior residences in the area several times a year.
