City Council Meetings – Week of 5/5/2024

City Council will meet as a Committee of the Whole in person (Council Chamber) and virtually (Zoom link) on Monday, May 6 at 7PM. The agenda includes a public hearing on the following:

City Council will meet in person (Council Chamber) and virtually (Zoom link) on Monday, May 6 at 7:45PM. See Reports Docket and New Docket.

Land Use will meet in person (Council Chamber, Room 207) and virtually (Zoom link) on Tuesday, May 7 at 7PM. The agenda includes the following requests:

  • Special Permit/Site Plan Approval to convert the basement space for use as an office and waive 15 parking stalls at 1173-1177 Walnut Street (See Special Permit documents and Planning Memo.)
  • Amend a previously approved Special Permit/Site Plan to substitute a cash payment in lieu of providing the units at 136-144 Hancock Street (See Special Permit documents and Planning Memo.)

Programs and Services will meet in person (Room 211) and virtually (Zoom link) Wednesday, May 8 at 7PM. The agenda includes the following:

  • Request for a resolution to declare June 9, 2024 George Mansfield Day in the City of Newton.
  • Request to transfer the sum of $85,000 from the Health & Human Services Clinical Health, Full Time Salaries to the Temporary Staffing Account
  • Appointment of Donald Siegel to the Newton Housing Authority
  • Department Budget Discussions: City Solicitor, Veterans Services, Health and Human Services, Senior Services. See Budget Materials:
    • FY24-FY28 Capital Improvement Plan
    • FY24 Municipal/School Operating Budget
    • FY24-FY28 Supplemental Capital Improvement Plan

Public Safety and Transportation will meet virtually (Zoom link) on Wednesday, May 8 at 7PM. The agenda includes the following requests:

  • Appropriate and expend $1,350,000 from June 30, 2023 Certified Free Cash to the Fire Rescue – Regular Overtime
  • Transfer $450,000 from Comptroller’s Snow and Ice budgeted reserves to the Police Patrol Regular Overtime.
  • Discussion with the Police Department regarding the work of the Dedication to Community consultants.
  • Regular discussion with the Police Department of police data, including crashes, types of calls, numbers and dispositions.

Finance will meet with Programs and Services in person (Room 207) and virtually (Zoom link) on Thursday, May 9 at 7PM. The agenda includes:
