Brown Middle School students: 25 years of donating gifts to Brookview House

Since 1999, the students of Brown Middle School have organized a gift drive for the families of Brookview House in Dorchester. Each year, students collect gifts, load them onto a box truck, and send them to Brookview, where they are given to the caretakers to wrap and gift to Brookview families. King Movers and Storage volunteers its time and equipment for the drive.

Brown Middle School Principal Kim Lysaght said, “The Gift Drive has been a vital part of the fabric of Brown Middle School culture for many years. Student engagement in community service is so important to help them value that they can make a difference.”

Lesbie Bramble, Director of Adult Services at Brookview House, said, “Each year Brown Middle School families out-do themselves; they work extremely hard to ensure that each individual receives their first choice. Moms tear up when the gifts arrive, and the children are so excited on Christmas morning.”

From the Brookview website: “Founded in 1990, Brookview is a nonprofit organization led by Black and Latinx women that works for justice, equity, and systemic change for low-income mothers and their children living in Boston. Brookview provides support services and programs that confront the root causes of homelessness and poverty.”
