Laredo: Please vote for these candidates…

I am writing to ask for your vote to serve another term as a Ward 7 Councilor-at-Large! I am proud of my record of public service:

  • A staunch supporter of our public schools;
  • Working hard to improve our infrastructure;
  • Supporting our efforts to fight climate change;
  • A proponent of responsible, data-driven, zoning and development;
  • Ensuring that we spend our money wisely; and
  • Always actively listening to the concerns and needs of our residents.

I also ask that you vote for the following candidates in contested races:

  • Rena Getz – Ward 5 Councilor-at-Large
  • Alan Lobovits – Ward 6 Councilor-at-Large
  • David Micley – Ward Councilor, Ward 2
  • Randy Block – Ward Councilor, Ward 4
  • Lisa Gordon – Ward Councilor, Ward 6
  • Holly Ryan – Ward Councilor, Ward 8

I want to particularly note why I am supporting Lisa Gordon. Lisa grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton South High School, as have her two children. Before returning here with her husband to raise their family, she served as the first Executive Director of Youth against Racism in Europe, which was formed to combat instances of racist violence that were being perpetrated by neo-Nazi groups against Black and brown people. She has been a leader in community affairs in Newton for many years, including co-founding Friends of Newton Centre; working to save the former Newton Centre Library from privatization; helping our high school musicians save the NSHS Jazz program and our elementary schools students save the strings program; and running a pandemic fundraiser, Signs of Gratitude, to raise money for the Newton relief efforts. Lisa currently works as the Executive Director of the Acton Food Pantry. I am confident that Lisa will serve the residents of Ward 6 well and be a strong and collaborative voice on the City Council.

Thank you for your support!

Marc Laredo
