As of August 30, eighty-three Newton residents have signed up to walk a 5K, 10K, half marathon, or marathon in the 2023 Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk on October 1. The Walk seeks to raise $9 million for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Newton resident Anya Rhodes, age nine, will participate as a Walk Hero for the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. Heroes are matched with Jimmy Fund Walk teams to give participants an opportunity to connect with patients. Anya was diagnosed with osteosarcoma and walks on her match team, Team Anya. “I like rock climbing, swimming, and art,” Anya writes. “The Jimmy Fund helped me get through cancer treatment and allowed me to do more of the things I love.”
The Jimmy Fund Walk raises more money than any other single-day charity walk in the nation. Since its inception in 1989, Walk participants have raised more than $167 million for cancer care and research.
Newton residents can support Dana-Farber by donating to their friends and neighbors using the links below — or sign up to walk or volunteer to support the cause. Learn more in the 2023 Jimmy Fund Walk Handbook.
