On November 5 at 7PM, West Newton Cinema will host a screening of the heartwarming feature documentary Spreadsheet Champions, followed by a panel discussion with Newton’s own spreadsheet champion pioneers — Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston. Dan Bricklin invented and codeveloping (with Bob Frankston) VisiCalc, the first electronic spreadsheet, which helped spark the rapid growth of the personal computer industry.
Spreadsheet Champions follows six students from across the world as they put their Excel-lent skills to the test at the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championships. Blending adrenaline, formulas, and friendship, the film shines a light on the power of education, the surprising influence of spreadsheets, and the next generation of digital leaders.
