West Newton Cinema: Behind the Screen: “Hamnet”, Dec. 7

West Newton Cinema presents Behind the Scenes screening and panel discussion of “Hamnet”, Sunday Dec 7 from 2-5PM.

“Hamnet” is a historical drama directed by the Academy Award winning writer/director Chloé Zhao and based on the novel by Maggie O’Farrell. The film follows the relationship between William Shakespeare and his wife Agnes in the wake of the death of their 11-year-old son Hamnet. It tells a powerful story of love and loss, and one that is believed to have inspired the creation of Shakespeare’s masterpiece, Hamlet.

Distinguished panelists – Stephen Greenblatt – Professor of Humanities at Harvard, and Michelle Ephraim – Professor of English at Worcester Polytechnic Institute – will explore the film’s cultural and historical context and discuss more broadly the influence of Shakespeare on the arts.
