As an NPS educator, I’m excited to be supporting Mali Brodt, Jenna Miara, and Jim Murphy for School Committee. This fall, I had the opportunity to host Mali and Jenna in my home with neighbors and. friends. Mali and Jenna were thoughtful, forward-looking, and solution-oriented. It was deeply refreshing to talk with candidates for School Committee who understand schools. Mali’s nearly 20 years as an educator, and Jenna’s experience on both the union and management sides of negotiations are both invaluable perspectives that would be strong additions to any school committee.
I was further impressed by their commitment to meaningful collaboration with Newton’s educators. Both understood that the educators working in the buildings with our children everyday are valuable partners to be collaborated with, and not adversaries. Though there will certainly be instances in which educators will disagree with the School Committee, all discussions are richer, and better grounded in the reality in our buildings, with educator input.
While I didn’t have the opportunity to host Jim, I’ve been impressed by his public statements and his performance during the Area Council Debates. Jim has spent nearly 40 years in schools as a teacher and administrator – this has produced a kind of deep expertise that cannot be learned in any other way and will allow him to approach the challenges facing NPS with a trained, critical eye.
Join me in supporting Mali, Jenna, and Jim!
