John Chaimanis: Why I am running for City Councilor

I am the son of an immigrant father and a single working mother who instilled in me the values of looking for good in everyone, giving back, and hard work.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I fight for social justice in education, against poverty, and for our common home — the Earth. While I was not born in Newton, my three children are fifth-generation Newtonians. My wife, Gina Marzilli, and I worked hard to move to Newton to raise our family here because we know just how truly special this city is. Our kids attend the Newton Public Schools because we believe in public education, and we live in a multigenerational household because we believe in taking care of family.

I want to continue my lifetime of service by offering the City Council my proven experience as a business owner, finance professional, and clean energy leader.

After earning my finance degree, I turned down Wall Street to volunteer-teach science and math to middle schoolers in Roxbury. I then co-founded a school in inner-city Boston, where I managed all business and operations. Education had been my gift; giving it back became my duty. In 2005, I redirected my passion for greater impact — fighting climate change, which affects all of humanity. A decade ago, I founded a clean energy company that has already financed projects producing enough clean energy to power over 25,000 homes.

My record shows I deliver measurable results. I will bring financial expertise to the City Council — an essential skill that is underrepresented on the Council today.

I will listen to residents, strengthen transparency, and ground decisions in data and community input.

I humbly ask for your vote.

John Chaimanis
Ward 4 At Large Candidate
