Grove: Why I’m supporting John Chaimanis for Ward 4 At-Large City Councilor

I’ve been a Newton resident for over 20 years and have known John Chaimanis and his family for over five years in our Newton community. I’ve come to deeply respect his character, thoughtful approach to complex issues, and commitment to fairness and collaboration.

John is willing to participate in hard conversations. I’ve engaged with him in spirited, respectful debates, most recently on artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential impacts on society. We don’t always agree, which is probably a good thing, but what stands out is not just his intelligence, but his ability to listen—truly listen—to differing points of view. He brings good judgment, humility, and a genuine desire to learn from and understand others.

These qualities aren’t just personal—they’re foundational to good governance. And they’re exactly what Newton needs on the City Council.

John’s background is impressive: a former educator, and finance expert who has built a business that has made enough clean energy to power over 25,000 homes. But what matters most is how he applies that experience to serve others. Whether coaching youth sports, mentoring students, or advocating for sustainable development and economic growth, John leads by example and with heart.

He’s earned the endorsement of many respected Newton leaders, and it’s easy to see why. John brings a facts-based approach, collaborative spirit, and love for our city. He understands that Newton’s strength lies in its diverse villages, schools, and people—and he’s committed to policies that reflect that.

This is a competitive race, and every vote truly matters. I urge Newton residents to join me in supporting John Chaimanis. Let’s elect a leader who listens, builds bridges, and will work tirelessly to make Newton better.

Sincerely,
Geoff Grove
