City Council

City Council is not scheduled to meet this week.

Finance‘s regularly scheduled meeting has been canceled.

Zoning and Planning will meet on Thursday regarding:

  • Appropriating $2,154,544 in CPA funding for a grant to the Newton Affordable Housing Trust for its FY26 funding
  • Appointing Denise Lisio to the Newtonville Historic District Commission
  • Holding a public hearing with the Planning & Development Board on possible zoning amendments to allow certain routine residential alterations by right
  • Re-evaluating possible amendments to Inclusionary Zoning Ordinance to include 4-6 units and raising the requirements for the number of affordable units in large developments
  • Reappointing:
    • Philip Plottel to the Economic Development Commission
    • Nancy Grissom to the Newton Historical Commission

School Committee

School Committee will meet in Executive Session on Wednesday, before its regular meeting, to discuss strategy with respect to litigation.

School Committee will hold its regular meeting on Wednesday with an agenda including:

  • Draft recommendations from the Long-Range Planning Committee
  • Math Update
  • NPS Rights & Responsibilities Handbook, and NNHS and NSHS Student Handbooks
  • Fiscal/Operational Update
  • Facilities Update
  • Review Capital Improvement Plan
  • Follow-Up from 9/8/25 Executive Session regarding negotiations
  • Superintendent Goals

Countryside Elementary School Project Community Update will be held on Wednesday regarding completed and upcoming construction activities.


Boards and Commissions

Newton Free Library Development Committee will meet on Monday to review applications for Development position.

Newton Commonwealth Foundation, which manages the municipal golf course, will meet on Tuesday regarding approval of a quote to replace patio doors.

Newton Retirement Board will meet on Tuesday.

    Newton Community Education Commission will meet on Wednesday regarding:

    • Report on Summer 2025
    • Fall launch and status of Community Innovation Club model
    • NCE finances how to secure additional volunteer resources

    BERDO Committee Advisory Commission will meet on Thursday regarding BERDO Ordinance Overview and Advisory Commission and Regulation Development Process.

    Planning and Development Board will meet jointly with the Zoning and Planning Committee on Thursday for public hearings on

    • Amending the Inclusionary Zoning Ordinance to include 4-6 units and raising the requirements for the number of affordable units in large developments
    • Amending zoning to allow certain routine residential alterations by right

    Newton Energy Commission will meet on Thursday regarding:

    Sustainable Materials Management Commission will meet on Thursday regarding

    • PAYT – review
    • 2021 SMMC report “A Path to Zero Waste”

    Development Review Team is scheduled to meet this week regarding:
