City Council
City Council is not scheduled to meet this week.
City Council has received an update on the Washington Street Pilot from the Planning and Development Department. It addresses “final steps ahead for construction, the planned refinements in response to community, and Councilor feedback and City staff observations.”
Zoning and Planning will meet on Tuesday regarding appointments of:
- Tom Gloria, Deb Crossley, Peter Barrer, and Kristen Avila to the BERDO Advisory Commission
- Sean Macamaux to the Conservation Commission
- James Miller to the Auburndale Historic District Commission
- Travis Salters to the Newton Historical Commission
School Committee
School Committee is not scheduled to meet this week.
Boards and Commissions
Planning and Development Board will meet on Monday regarding:
- Petition for release from a covenant granted for 25 Laurus Lane in a Plan dated June 25, 1987
- Possible amendments to the Inclusionary Zoning Ordinance to include 4-6 units, including raising the requirements for the number of affordable units in large developments
Newton Free Library Board of Trustees Nominating and Governance Committee will meet on Tuesday regarding officer nominations.
Conservation Commission will meet on Thursday regarding:

Newtonville Historic District Commission will meet on Thursday regarding requests for Certificates of Appropriateness for:
- Roof replacement and solar panel installation at 58 Prescott Street
- Window replacement, wood repairs, and the installation of solar panels on the rear of the house and garage at 167 Lowell Avenue
- Alterations to windows and addition of a cement pad for the installation of a heat pump condenser at 218 Walnut Street
- Replacement of front stairs, walk way, and driveway at 87 Prescott Street
Other
City Councilor David Micley will hold an Office Hour on Monday, August 4, 4PM-5PM at Clover (835 Washington Street, Newtonville).
Newton Police Department will host National Night Out for the entire community on Tuesday, 5PM-8PM, in Captain John Ryan Park, next to the police station in West Newton.
Cooper Center Monthly Update will be held virtually (Zoom link) on Tuesday, August 5, at 6PM.
Development Review Team will meet this week regarding:
- 148 California Street: Rezoning from MAN to BU2 or other appropriate business zone and a special permit for a parking waiver
- 55 Auburndale Avenue: A third-story addition to an existing nonconforming single-family home
