The Highland Glee Club of Newton — a vibrant, demanding, and rewarding men’s chorus — is seeking new members and holding Open Rehearsals and Auditions on September 2 and 9 at 7 PM at Grace Episcopal Church (76 Eldredge Street, Newton Corner). Pre-register for Open Rehearsals and Auditions at www.highlandgleeclub.com, or simply turn up on September 2 and/or 9 at 7PM.
Regular rehearsals are on Tuesday nights in Newton. HGC also hosts cocktail parties and dinners for the socially included and their Significant Others. New this year: “Rabbie Burns Night” potluck with kilts, Scottish song, and haggis.
The Highland Glee Club’s epic concert lineup for 2025-26 features these concerts (all on Saturday afternoons):
- Harvest and the Hunt, October 18: Warm songs of autumn for männerchor, with Oktoberfest reception
- A Holiday Feast of Song, December 6: Festive musical selections for Christmas and Chanukah, featuring Anton Rubinstein’s Seraphic Song with violin and mezzo-soprano soloists
- Enchanted, March 14: Gregorian chant, Renaissance madrigals, and Holst’s Rig Veda based on ancient Indian texts
- Let Freedom Sing, May 9: HGC hosts two other men’s choruses to form an 80-man mega chorus for the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, featuring Randall Thompson’s Testament of Freedom on texts by Thomas Jefferson.
- Love-In Unplugged, June (date TBD): The popular free outdoor annual Pops concert, this time featuring mid-century folk music with guitars.
