The West Newton Cinema will offer a full day of free movies on Thursday, August 28 to celebrate the first anniversary of its purchase by a nonprofit foundation dedicated to restoring the Cinema for the community’s benefit. There will be films from different genres, time periods, and parts of the world. All are welcome to come and partake in this celebration of film, and the community that loves it.
One year ago, on August 27, 2024, thanks to the extraordinary support of over 1200 donors — including a transformational anchor gift — the West Newton Cinema Foundation purchased the historic Cinema, preventing its demolition, and began operating it as a nonprofit for the community’s benefit. This year has been filled with movies, conversations, and connections that would not have been possible without the community’s generosity.
Between screenings, the lobby will be buzzing with activities: a community book swap, a West Newton Cinema photobooth, music, and raffles! Local businesses and community organizations have
contributed incredible prizes that will be up for grabs throughout the day.
At 6PM there will be a reception in the lobby with birthday cake.
Register here for free movies and/or the reception.
