What’s Up in Newton – Week of 7/27/2025 [UPDATED]

A quiet, mid-summer week…

City Council

City Council is not scheduled to meet this week.

Public Facilities will meet on Monday regarding a request for:

  • A main drain extension from near 16 & 17 Chapin Road to the end of the road, connecting to a proposed on-site infiltration system for new dwellings

Traffic Council will meet on Thursday regarding requests for:

  • Changing parking regulations on Norwood Avenue between Parkview Avenue and Bridges Avenue
  • Changing parking regulations on both sides of Norwood Avenue in Newtonville to improve safety for area residents and Cabot School students and staff
  • An accessible parking space in front of 149 North Street (Newton Gardens)
  • Changing parking regulation on Eldredge Street between Franklin Street and Church Street to add “except by Resident Permit”
  • A new parking prohibition along the east and south side of the one-way portion of Albemarle Road between Watertown Street and Eddy Street to ensure access for emergency vehicles
  • Changing parking regulations on the narrow portion of Lowell Avenue east of Prescott Street
  • Considering removal of the Horace Mann Parking District, replacing it with a different parking restriction on Nevada Street and on Linwood Avenue
  • Changing the parking regulations along a portion of Woodbine Street and Bourne Street for safe shared parking among residents and a limited number of parking permits for employees of local businesses

School Committee

School Committee is not scheduled to meet this week.


Boards and Commissions

Newton Cultural Council will meet on Monday regarding:

  • Community survey
  • Grantee outreach and final report
  • Grantee Reception Update, Sept. 18, 2025 in City Hall War Memorial Auditorium
  • Planning for new grant cycle

Newton Affordable Housing Trust will meet on Tuesday regarding:

  • Transfering $292,500 in Inclusive Zoning funds from 106 River Street project to Newton Housing Authority
  • Dream Collaborative – Site Feasibility Project Review and Discussion
  • Review of Revised Trust Funding Application
  • Update on Newton Gardens Project
  • Discussion of CPA Funding Application for August CPC Meeting

Newton Retirement Board will meet on Tuesday.


Other

Development Review Team will meet this week regarding:

  • 60 Needham Street: Parking waiver for day care use
  • 355 Walnut Street: Relief for extending nonconforming FAR to enclose front porch/mudroom
