Reilly: Have a splash in Upper Falls

A new splash park opened two weeks ago in Upper Falls just in time for the 100+ degree hot spell. It’s a wonderful new summertime amenity, especially if you have young kids.

Stop by there any day that is not raining, and you’ll see lots of kids, laughing, splashing, grinning, and playing.

The park features four or five different water features that are each controlled by a button on a pedestal. Hit the button and the water starts spraying for 4 or 5 minutes. Hit all the buttons, and the whole park comes alive with water everywhere and streams running through and tall pipes spewing mist in the air.

The park is right alongside the Upper Falls Greenway near the corner of Chestnut and Oak Streets, just to the left of Little Luke’s Cafe. It’s free and open to everyone. Little Luke’s has been closed since last summer but is due to reopen in the coming week, which will be a great addition – Splash in the park and finish with some ice cream from Little Luke’s.

The splash park was built by Northland Development as the first part of the huge housing / office / retail development project that is being built there. Once built, the park was turned over to the city and is now under the auspices of Newton Parks, Recreation & Culture.

Next nice day, head over to Upper Falls and have a splash!
