Climate Preparedness Week: Protecting Our Shared Future, Sept. 29

Join Newton Climate Action Coordinator Caroline Weiss and Newton’s climate action organizations on Monday, September 29 at 7PM at the Newton Free Library’s Druker Auditorium (330 Homer Street) to learn about the local impacts of extreme weather, improving community resilience to climate change, and mitigating greenhouse gas emissions.

Weiss will present an update of Newton’s Climate Action Plan. A panel of leaders from Green Newton, Newton Conservators, Charles River Watershed Association, and Newton for Everyone will describe their efforts to reduce carbon emissions, pollution, and waste; increase energy efficiency, biodiversity, and environmental justice; conserve natural resources; and build shared green infrastructure. They will promote opportunities to learn, to connect, and take action. There will be time for questions and answers.

The panel moderator will be Rachael Boyce, a leader for Communities Responding to Extreme Weather (CREW). CREW is a network that provides resources for community preparedness for emergencies such as power outages and heat waves. CREW collaborates with community libraries, churches, schools, nonprofits, and local businesses in building local climate resilience and mutual support for recovery and repair.
